Ms. Gojak summed it well,"Building fluency should involve more than speed and accuracy. It must reach beyond procedures and computation." As a 5th grade teacher, I find that one third of the class barely gains fluency in certain topics, one third is still in the rote stage with little understanding of the concepts and one third has absolutely no idea. Consequently, I am gravitating towards creating Flip lessons that will provide the students with more time to apply their understanding. As for the video, I feel it degrades the effort of dedicated educators who are making an attempt to reverse the slide of our students.
